Billionaire Democrat mega-donor Stephen Cloobeck, former CEO of Diamond Resorts International, turned himself in to West Hollywood authorities Tuesday morning on a felony charge — just weeks after publicly cutting ties with Rep. Eric Swalwell over the California Democrat's sexual misconduct allegations. You truly cannot make this stuff up.
The trash is literally taking itself out, folks. One Democrat dumps another for being embarrassing, and then catches his own felony. It's like watching a dumpster fire inside a larger dumpster fire.
Cloobeck, the hotel magnate who'd been a longtime Democrat donor before recently rebranding himself as a "libertarian Republican," was booked on a felony charge of attempting to prevent or dissuade a victim or witness from testifying. It's unclear if the charges stem from Eric Swalwell's case or something unrelated. He posted $300,000 bond and was released, because of course billionaires don't sit in holding like the rest of us.
"These charges are false and we look forward to our day in court," Cloobeck said in a statement. Sure, pal. That's what they all say.
The backstory makes this even better. Cloobeck had allowed Swalwell to film a denial video at his Beverly Hills estate when the congressman's scandal first broke. Then, when the details got too ugly to ignore, Cloobeck went full scorched earth. "I am no longer associated with a man that takes advantage of women. I support women's rights," he declared, according to LifeZette.
He even told counsel on camera: "You busted the trust. I'm shocked, I'm disturbed and get the f out of here." Speaking to KTTV, he added he was "like blown away" and that "there's no way I would have endorsed him."
So virtuous. So principled. So very arrested on a felony.
But wait — there's more. Cloobeck's 28-year-old fiancée, Penthouse model Adva Lavie, is facing six felony charges of her own for allegedly targeting elderly men through online dating app scams. She's currently wearing an ankle monitor and facing more than 11 years in prison if convicted. Her trial is expected to begin later this month.
Cloobeck, for his part, faces up to 4 years in prison on his charge. And yet the wedding is apparently still on. "The marriage is still on, the date is now a secret," he told reporters. Romantic.
Let's recap: billionaire Democrat donor lets a scandal-plagued congressman use his Beverly Hills mansion as a backdrop, then dumps him for being morally repugnant, then gets arrested on a felony witness tampering charge, while his fiancée — a woman nearly half his age — is fighting six felonies for allegedly scamming elderly men. Her ex-husband is a porn actor named Edan Ives. This is the Democrat donor class, everybody.
We keep hearing from the left about how Republicans are the party of corruption and moral decay. Meanwhile, their billionaire benefactors are speed-running a Netflix true crime series in real time.
The Democrat Party doesn't have a donor problem. It has a felony problem. And the call is coming from inside the mansion.
