D.C. Homicides Just Crashed 52% After the National Guard Showed Up — And Democrats Are STILL Mad About It

The numbers are in from Washington, D.C., and they’re brutal — brutal for every politician, pundit, and blue-check activist who spent the last year screaming that deploying the National Guard to the nation’s capital was “authoritarian.” Homicides in D.C. have plunged 52% since the Guard rolled in. Fifty-two percent. That’s not a statistical blip. That’s a whole lot of people who are alive today because someone finally had the guts to do what needed to be done.

But sure, tell us again how the real threat to democracy is soldiers standing on street corners. We’ll wait.

Here’s what happened. President Trump deployed the National Guard to D.C. because the city had turned into a war zone under years of soft-on-crime Democrat leadership. Carjackings, shootings, armed robberies — the whole menu. Tourists were getting mugged within eyeshot of the Capitol building. Members of Congress were getting their cars broken into. It was embarrassing. It was dangerous. And the city’s Democrat leadership was doing exactly nothing about it except holding press conferences about “root causes” and “community investment.”

So Trump sent in the Guard. And Democrats lost their minds.

Remember the hysterics? “This is what fascism looks like!” “Troops in American streets!” “We’re living in a police state!” MSNBC ran segments comparing it to Tiananmen Square. (Yes, really.) AOC probably cried about it on Instagram — we didn’t check, but the odds are strong.

Well, fascism apparently looks like a 52% reduction in murders. Weird brand of tyranny where the main effect is that fewer people get shot.

Washington D.C. Homicides Plunge 52 Percent As National Guard Deployment Changes City's Crime Landscape https://t.co/aUL661xGXY

The data, reported this week, shows that the Guard’s presence fundamentally changed the crime landscape in the capital. Homicides are down by more than half. Carjackings have cratered. Armed robberies have dropped so dramatically that some neighborhoods that were no-go zones after dark are now seeing families walking around at night again. You know — normal stuff that Americans used to take for granted before Democrats decided that policing was racist.

And here’s the part that should sting the most for the defund crowd: it wasn’t complicated. Nobody had to reinvent criminal justice. Nobody had to launch a $400 million “violence interruption” program staffed by former gang members with sociology degrees. They just put uniformed personnel on the streets, and criminals — who are generally not the brightest bulbs on the tree — decided that maybe tonight wasn’t the best night to carjack somebody.

Shocking, right? Turns out criminals respond to the presence of consequences. Someone alert the sociology department at Columbia.

Now, you’d think a 52% drop in homicides would be the kind of bipartisan win that everybody could celebrate. People are alive who would otherwise be dead. Families are intact. Communities are safer. That’s not a Republican thing or a Democrat thing — that’s a human thing.

But no. Democrats can’t celebrate this because it proves everything they’ve been saying for the last decade is wrong. They told us more police meant more violence. Wrong. They told us “community-based solutions” were the answer. Wrong. They told us the National Guard deployment would “escalate tensions” and make things worse. Spectacularly, catastrophically wrong.

Fifty-two percent wrong, to be precise.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser — the same woman who painted “Black Lives Matter” on the street in giant yellow letters while her city’s murder rate was spiking — has been notably quiet about these numbers. Can’t imagine why. When you spend years insisting that the answer to crime is anything except actually stopping criminals, it’s probably awkward when someone comes along and stops criminals and the results are immediate and undeniable.

(We’re sure she’ll find a way to take credit for it eventually. Politicians always do.)

The lesson here is simple, and we’ve been saying it for years: law enforcement works. Visible, credible law enforcement presence deters crime. This isn’t a theory. This isn’t a talking point. It’s a 52% reduction in dead human beings, measured and documented in the nation’s capital.

Every single person who screamed “authoritarian” owes an apology to every family in D.C. who can sleep a little easier tonight. But we won’t hold our breath on that. Apologies require the kind of self-awareness that’s been defunded right along with the police.

Fifty-two percent. Hang that number on the wall. Frame it. Send it to every city council member in every crime-ravaged Democrat city in America. The formula isn’t a secret. It never was. You just have to care more about results than ideology.

Welcome to what competent leadership looks like, Washington. We know it’s been a while.
