The Department of Homeland Security has been in a partial shutdown since February 14th.
You’ve probably heard Democrats explain this as a fight over policy, oversight, or personnel. That’s not what Hakeem Jeffries said when he was asked directly.
Here’s the quote: “We’re in a DHS shutdown right now because Republicans have refused to agree to keep ICE out of sensitive locations — polling sites.”
Polling sites. That’s the hill they chose. Not hospitals. Not schools. The specific location Jeffries named first was polling sites.
Democrats want an explicit prohibition — written into the funding bill — preventing federal immigration enforcement officers from operating near any polling location. No ICE within reach of a ballot box.
When Trump removed DHS Secretary Kristi Noem in an attempt to break the standoff, Jeffries made it clear that wasn’t enough: “A change in personnel is not sufficient. We need a change in policy.”
The policy they want: ICE stays away from your polling place, no matter what.
Now connect this to your voter ID article. Eighty-two percent of Hispanic voters support voter ID. Seventy-two percent of Black voters support voter ID. But Democrats are shutting down the entire Department of Homeland Security — through terror attacks, through active war — to make sure no federal officer can check whether the people showing up to vote are legally allowed to be here.
They say voter fraud doesn’t exist. Then they shut down homeland security to keep enforcement away from elections.
You can believe one of those things. You cannot believe both.
