Democrats Couldn't Even Give Dead Soldiers One Day Off From Their Trump Obsession

Memorial Day 2026 — the one day a year Americans are supposed to shut up about politics and honor the men and women who gave everything — and Democrats still couldn't help themselves. Multiple Democratic officials and the party's own official account used the solemn holiday to take cheap shots at President Trump, because apparently nothing says "I support the troops" like exploiting their graves for retweets.

Stay classy, folks. The fallen definitely bled out in some faraway desert so you could score partisan dunks on X.

The Democrats' official party account on X posted this gem on May 25: "Today, we honor the American heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in Trump's war with Iran." Not America's war. Not the troops' sacrifice on its own terms. No — they had to staple Trump's name to it like a campaign flyer on a headstone. The reference was to Operation Epic Fury, and whatever your opinion on the conflict, the men and women who died in it deserve better than being reduced to a talking point in your little social media slap fight.

But it got worse. Over in Minneapolis, Mayor Jacob Frey decided Memorial Day was actually about someone else entirely. His initial post read: "Today, we remember George Floyd, who was murdered by a former Minneapolis police officer six years ago. That moment changed our city forever." The city of Minneapolis' official account echoed the sentiment: "Today we remember George Floyd."

George Floyd. On Memorial Day. The day we honor fallen soldiers.

Now look — whatever you think about the Floyd case, the man was not a veteran who died in combat. Memorial Day has a specific meaning. It's not "Remember Whoever You Want" Day. It's not a political grab bag. It exists to honor military personnel who gave their lives defending this country. Period.

To his credit — and I use that phrase loosely — Frey eventually posted a follow-up that actually mentioned the troops: "Memorial Day is a time to remember the brave service members who gave their lives for our country and the freedoms we enjoy today. We owe them — and the families who carry their memory forward — our deepest gratitude." So he does know what the holiday is about. He just thought George Floyd should get top billing.

Meanwhile, as Townhall reported, the Trump administration spent the day paying respects at Arlington National Cemetery — you know, the place where actual fallen heroes are buried. No political stunts. No inflammatory tweets. Just honoring the dead like a normal human being on Memorial Day.

The contrast could not be more stark. One side visited graves. The other side danced on them for clicks.

This is who these people are. They will politicize your grandmother's funeral if they think it moves the needle half a point in a tracking poll. A dead soldier isn't a person to them — it's a prop. A useful visual. A springboard to the real point, which is always, always, always "Trump bad."

The troops who made the ultimate sacrifice didn't do it so the Democrats' social media intern could get engagement metrics. They did it for this country. All of it. Even the parts that vote differently than you.

One day. They couldn't give the dead one single day without making it about themselves. Remember that next time they lecture you about "decency."
