Senate Republicans just dropped an 18-second ad against Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner that might be the most devastating campaign spot in modern political history — because they didn't have to make anything up. They just read his own Reddit posts out loud.
That's it. That's the ad. The Democrats found a Senate candidate whose internet history makes Anthony Weiner look like a Boy Scout.
Platner, who apparently operated under the Reddit handle "P-Hustle" — because of course he did — left behind a trail of posts on the r/Military and r/USMC forums that are so vile we can barely describe them in a family publication. One post from March 2017 featured this gem: "I still have to jerk off every time I sit in a portas----er… that blue water smell conditioned me."
Read that again. This man wants to be a United States Senator.
The NRSC ad, captioned "This is who Graham Platner is. Don't ignore the signs," didn't need Hollywood production value or clever editing. Just Platner's own words, displayed on screen for voters to absorb in all their glory. Another post from March 2021 surfaced from the same account before Platner apparently realized running for office with a Reddit history like that might be problematic and deleted the whole thing.
Too late, buddy. The internet is forever.
But wait — it gets better. Not only are we dealing with a candidate who publicly confessed to porta-potty fetish behavior, there are also reports circulating on social media about Platner allegedly having an SS Nazi tattoo. Because when you're already at rock bottom, why not keep digging?
And here's where the story goes from hilarious to absolutely unhinged. Bernie Sanders was asked about the Platner situation and reportedly lashed out at reporters for even bringing it up. He told the reporter to "get a real job." Sanders backed Platner in August of 2025--an endorsement that's becoming more and more of a hard thing to defend with all of Platner's missteps over the last couple of months--from telling everyone he's a communist, to admitting he has a Nazi tattoo, to calling rural Americans stupid to attacking a purple-heart veteran.
We've seen Democrats defend a lot of questionable candidates over the years. We've watched them circle the wagons around people who lied about their military service, their ethnicity, their education. But defending a guy whose campaign-ending scandal involves what he does in portable toilets? That's new territory, even for them.
The Maine Senate race was supposed to be competitive. Democrats had dreams of flipping that seat. Instead, they recruited a candidate who apparently treated Reddit like a confessional booth after too many beers and a traumatic visit to a construction site bathroom.
Here's the thing about opposition research in 2026 — you don't even need private investigators or leaked documents anymore. You just need a Reddit search bar and a strong stomach. The NRSC didn't dig through classified files or hack anyone's email. They literally just scrolled down.
As Twitchy reported, the entire spectacle has become a masterclass in why political candidates should probably Google themselves before filing paperwork. Or at the very least, delete the posts about porta-potties before announcing your bid for the United States Senate.
Democrats have a choice now. They can either stand behind Porta-Potty Platner and hope Maine voters are really, really forgiving, or they can quietly find someone — anyone — whose biggest skeleton in the closet isn't a literal blue water fetish confession.
My money says they'll stick with him. These people defended "Gold Bar Bob" Menendez until he was practically wearing an ankle bracelet. A little porta-potty confession? That's Tuesday for the modern Democratic Party.
