Comedy Central's The Daily Show has once again decided that racial slurs are perfectly fine — as long as they're aimed at a Black conservative. Host-of-the-week Josh Johnson called Justice Clarence Thomas an "Uncle Tom" on April 30. Then radio host Charlamagne Tha God showed up on May 13 and said, "'Mr. Coons' is actually my nickname for Clarence Thomas."
Let that sink in for a second. A man on national television used the word "coons" — directed at a sitting Black Supreme Court justice — and the audience laughed.
NewsBusters' news analyst Alex Christy documented the latest round of slurs, and the pattern is impossible to ignore. This isn't a one-off. This is a habit. The Daily Show has turned racial abuse of Clarence Thomas into a recurring segment, and Comedy Central keeps cashing the checks.
Charlamagne's appearance was supposedly about Senator Chris Coons, the Delaware Democrat, who had asked on the show: "Anybody else brave enough to say that the Constitution prevents President Trump from seeking a third term?" — a reference to the 22nd Amendment. But Charlamagne couldn't resist. He pivoted straight to a racial slur against Thomas, because that's apparently what passes for political commentary on the left now.
Charlamagne also took a shot at President Trump, saying "Jokes about abusing power don't hit as hard when you're actually abusing power." Brave stuff from a guy who just used a racial epithet on basic cable.
And this isn't even the worst The Daily Show has done. Back in November 2023, contributor Leslie Jones called Senator Tim Scott a "[bleep]-ed ass anti-abortion" figure on the very same show. In June 2024, they went after Representative Byron Donalds. Representative Jasmine Crockett has piled on too. If you're Black and conservative, The Daily Show has a target on your back — and the weapon of choice is always the same: racial slurs that would end careers if they came from anyone on the right.
Imagine — just imagine — if a Fox News host called Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson an "Uncle Tom." Imagine if someone on Greg Gutfeld's show used the word Charlamagne used, directed at any liberal Black judge. CNN would run a four-day panel series. MSNBC would demand FCC investigations. Democrats would introduce a resolution. There would be boycotts, marches, and think pieces in every newspaper in America.
But when The Daily Show does it to Clarence Thomas? Crickets. From the same people who lecture us about "systemic racism" every single day.
Here's what they can't stand about Justice Thomas. He doesn't need their permission. He doesn't follow their script. He rules based on the Constitution, not based on what the "correct" position is supposed to be for someone who looks like him. And that drives them absolutely insane — so insane that they'll abandon every principle they claim to hold just to tear him down.
The "anti-racism" left doesn't hate racism. They hate disobedience. And Clarence Thomas is the most disobedient man in Washington.
That's why they'll keep slurring him. And that's why we'll keep calling it exactly what it is.
